Construction Worker Dies From Fall

November 24, FORT LEE, VA - 40 year old Clinton Duke Clark, an employee for Richmond based Manning Construction died from injuries he received when he fell from scaffolding at a construction site at Fort Lee. Clark was working as a laborer on a five-story barracks building on post when he fell approximately 45 feet. Preliminary reports indicate that he was wearing a safety harness at the time of the accident.


Farmer Crushed Under Tractor

November 24, CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC - 65 year old Jimmy Lyons of Pasquotank County, a mechanic who worked for Morgan Famrs, was working on a tractor around 9:30 a.m. when investigators said the tractor accidentally backed over him.


Worker Killed in Industrial Accident

November 23, GHENT, KY - 48 year old Robin Kelley of Madison, IN was killed and four others were injured on Tuesday when a large tire on a piece of equipment exploded at an industrial plant in Northern Kentucky. The five workers were attempting to change a tire on a large piece of equipment when it exploded.


Owner Found Dead in Bakery

November 23, BAKERSFIELD, CA - 49 year old Juanita Alvarado Francisco, owner of Panaderia Bakery, was found dead from trauma in a back storage room of the store Tuesday. The person who called deputies said the business appeared to be ransacked and the woman owner could not be found. Her death has been ruled a homicide.


Sheriff Deputy Dies in Shootout With Car Theft Suspect

November 23, WELD COUNTY, CO - Weld County Sheriff Deputy Sam Brownlee was killed in a shootout with a man who was suspected of stealing a car. The suspect lead police on a long car chase which ended in a neighborhood in Evans where the officer and the suspect were shot. Brownlee was transported to a hospital where he later died.


Worker Dies When Dump Truck Overturns

November 23, OVERTON, PA - 72 year old Ernest Compton of New Milford was killed Tuesday when his dump truck loaded with stone overturned. Troopers said he lost control of the dump truck he was driving along Overton Road west of New Albany after it went off the road and began to sink on the side of the road. The truck went down an embankment and hit some trees and a fence before it overturned.


Mine Worker Killed in Crash

November 23, FRANKFORT, KY - 32 year old Rhett Mosley of Perry County was killed early Tuesday morning after he lost control of a coal truck on site at the Rex Coal Strip Mine #1. According to a preliminary report Mosley either attempted to jump out or was thrown from the vehicle, and the truck struck an embankment and overturned onto him.


Ski Patrol Director Dies in Avalanche

November 22, DENVER, CO - Scott Kay, Colorado's Wolf Creek Ski area's ski-patrol director was killed Monday in an inbounds avalanche. Resort co-owner and spokeswoman Roseanne Pitcher declined comment beyond a statement from the resort that said the patrol director, "while working to protect others, was caught in an avalanche which, to our great sadness, he did not survive." Kay joins an elite group of ski-patrol heroes who sacrificed their lives while safeguarding the slopes.


Waste Management Worker Killed on the Job

November 22, MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - 47 year old Edward Miller Chaffin was killed when he was hit by a brush pick-up truck. Chaffin and another co-worker were using a hose to suck up leaves into the truck, and at some point when they moved the truck, they ended up running over one of the employees." An investigation is underway to determine how the incident happened.


Maintenance Worker Shot and Killed

November 22, MIAMI BEACH, FL - 60 year old Alberto Gomez was shot and killed by a tenant who was being served an eviction notice at a condo complex. Gomez was accompanying Miami-Dade police in serving the notice and an officer was wounded in the exchange of gunfire. When the tenant did not answer the officer at the door, Gomez proceeded to work on the door lock when the tenant suddenly opened the door and started shooting.


Professional Wrestler Working Security Shot and Killed at Nightclub

November 21, ATLANTA, GA - 33 year old Chris Long was shot and killed by unruly patrons that he and two other bouncers had tossed out of the DeKalb County's Shooter Alley. Police didn't release details about the incident, but one of Long's friends said he thinks the men returned later and targeted Long in the shooting.


Sanitation Worker Killed in Accident

November 20, BUCKHANNON, WV - 40 year old Joseph Robinson, who was struck by a garbage truck on November 18, has died. He was an employee for the City of Buckhannon. The driver of the garbage truck was attempting to back up, and although he saw Robinson in his rear view mirror, Robinson was hit and crushed under the rear tires. Robinson was transported from the scene to St. Joseph's Hospital and then onto Ruby Memorial Hospital where he later died.


Fireworks Company Employee Dies in Accident

November 20, UTICA, NY - 56 year old John Hatter of Canastota died after being injured while setting off fireworks at a city Christmas festival. Hatter was injured at the city's Christmas on Main Street festival Saturday evening. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center around 5:45 p.m. and later airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where he died.


Taxi Driver Found Dead Inside Cab

November 20, POWDER SPRINGS, GA - 23 year old Ricardo Peter Francois was found shot to death at an apartment complex Saturday night. A couple who resides at the complex saw the taxi with the engine running about 6 hours before reporting it to the police after they returned home and the taxi had not moved. An investigation is on-going.


Phoenix Cab Driver Shot to Death

November 19, PHOENIX, AZ - 37 year old Brian Mann, a driver for Discount Cab, was shot to death by a female passenger. According to witnesses, the cab left Highland Park apartments around 27th and Glendale avenues about 6 a.m. Friday, then pulled over in the middle of the street and fell out the driver's side door, police said. The woman, who was later arrested, got out of the back of the cab and calmly walked back to the apartment complex.


Highway Department Worker Killed in Accident

November 19, RUSK CO, WI - 45 year old Michael Bigalk of Catawba was killed Friday while working at the Rusk County Highway Shop. Bigalk was apparently servicing a dump truck and salt spreader and became entangled in the auger on the salt spreader, according to the Rusk County Sheriff's Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.


Fire Captain Dies in Line of Duty

November 19, GRAYSON, KY - 86 year old Captain Worne Hall, the captain and creator of the Hitchins Volunteer Fire Department died in the the line of duty on Friday from a heart attack. He died while helping to establish a landing zone for an EMS helicopter. Capt. Hall served the department for 34 years.


Paving Company Trucker Dies in Crash

November 19, WILKESBORO, NC - 62 year old Rex Stone, a truck driver for Carl Rose & Sons, died Friday night when his tractor trailer ran off US 421 in Wilkesboro. Police say witnesses said the truck ran off 421 traveling west, traveled off the road about 150 feet down an embankment 30 to 40 feet high. The driver was dead when emergency units arrived, but it was not clear whether he died of a medical condition or from injuries sustained in the wreck.


State Park Workers Dies in Crash, Fire

November 16, DAVIS, WV - 68 year old Robert DeMent was found dead in a burning vehicle at Blackwater Falls State Park. Troopers say DeMent was finishing his shift as a security guard when a visitor reported a vehicle on fire near a park bridge Monday. Lt. J.A. Wise in Parsons says it appears DeMent tried to move the van from the ditch.


Corrections Officer Dies During Training Session

November 16, WINDHAM, ME - 58 year old John Paskewicz, a guard at the Maine Correctional Center who died of a heart attack Tuesday during a training exercise with his son and other officers. Paskewicz had just finished a course and was joking with his son and other officers when he collapsed. A couple of officers gave him CPR before paramedics arrived. John P. Paskewicz, who worked with his father for the past nine years, assisted the officers.
