Construction worker killed following job site accident in Southampton Village

Jan. 5, Southhampton, NY - A construction worker died in Southampton Village Monday afternoon after a job site accident. The victim, whose identity is not being released until his family has been notified, was left trapped after a collapse occurred shortly before 3 p.m. while he working at a construction site at the southeast corner of North Sea Road and Willow Street. Emergency personnel from Southampton Fire Department, Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance and the Village Police responded to the scene to free the man and attempt to resuscitate him.


Massachusetts Companies Settle with OSHA in Worker's Death

Dec. 9, Dracut, MA - Two Massachusetts companies cited for safety violations in the death of a 31-year-old Londonderry, New Hampshire construction worker have reached settlements with the federal government. Robert Augeri died June 3 when a dump truck backed into him during a paving project on Interstate 495 in Lawrence, Mass. The company he worked for, Brox Industries of Dracut, Mass., recently agreed to pay a $10,000 fine and to correct violations identified by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.


Galveston worker dies after fall at city water plant

Jan. 4, Houston, TX - A 45-year-old Galveston city employee died Sunday after he accidentally fell into an intake chamber while working at the city waste water treatment plant, authorities said. Witnesses told police, who arrived at the scene around 2:38 p.m., that Andrew Hunter was working when he became caught in a hopper and fell about 20 feet into the chamber, Galveston Police Department Lt. D.J. Alvarez said. Rescue teams drained the chamber and recovered Hunter's body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.


Two killed in fishing boat accident off of Gloucester

Two fisherman died after their boat caught fire early this morning and apparently sank off the coast of Gloucester, the Coast Guard said. The bodies of Matteo Russo, 36, and his father-in-law, John Orlando, 58, were pulled from the 42-degree water around midday, said Petty Officer Connie Terrell, a spokeswoman for the Coast Guard. A helicopter, cutter, and rescue boat were used in the search. Searchers found a debris field off of Gloucester, but have not yet located Patriot, the 54-foot trawler owned by Russo.


Storekeeper shot during armed robbery on NW Side

Jan. 2, Omaha, NE - Red roses and crime tape surround the Kwik Shop parking lot near 33rd and Q street, where police say, the store's clerk, 42-year-old Laura Pierce was shot just after 2:00 Friday morning. "Detectives have been on scene, and the preliminary investigation revealed two black, male suspects with their faces covered - carrying hand guns - entered the store," said Officer Michael Pecha. The two men were caught on surveillance cameras. Police say, after demanding money, the men shot Pierce in the stomach, and drove off.


Man killed in industrial incident

Jan. 4, Shoshni, OK - An Oklahoma man was killed Wednesday afternoon at an industrial site north of Shoshoni. Fifty-four-year-old Charles Clifton Maclachlan of Manford, Okla. died at the scene, said Fremont County Coroner Ed McAuslan. Maclachlan was a driver for Francis Drilling Fluids Limited. McAuslan said Maclachlan was assisting another driver at a drilling site when he was run over by a semi-truck.


Dairy worker killed after hay loader overturns

Jan. 4, Marsing, ID - A 26-year-old Marsing man was killed in an apparent accident at a dairy near Marsing. Authorities with the Owyhee County Sheriff's office says it responded to the Deruyter Dairy northwest of Marsing. Deputies found a CAT hay loader driven by Alexandro Dominguez, 26, had overturned and had landed ontop of him. He was found deceased. Officials say there were no witnesses and that the loader was inspected and found to be in good working order. They believe Dominguez likely took a turn too fast, causing the loader to overturn and throwing Dominguez.


Another cab driver murdered in Pinellas

Jan. 2, Clearwater, Florida - Clearwater Police have identified the man murdered in his cab behind a strip center in north Clearwater. Detectives say someone shot and killed cabbie Jack LaGrand, 50, early this morning at 25705 U.S. Hwy 19 North. Investigators say they did gather some clues after reviewing video from surveillance cameras in some of the strip center businesses.


Warehouse worker dies from fall

Jan. 2, Salem, VA - Police say a 29-year-old man has died after falling about 30 feet through a roof at a Salem warehouse. Lt. R.D. Clark says police and emergency responders were called to Salem Frame about 10:40 a.m. Friday. The man was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he died. The man's name has not yet been released. He was living in the area, but originally was from Honduras.


Cops: Livery driver killed in apparent robbery

Jan. 1, Long Island, NY - A livery driver was shot and killed early yesterday during an apparent robbery just around the corner from his Coney Island home, police said. Khadim Bhatti, 63, was shot in the abdomen during a confrontation with three suspects who still were being sought last night. He was killed shortly after 5 a.m. at Neptune Avenue and West 33rd Street, less than a quarter-mile from his home. Police sources said Bhatti was a registered driver with the Taxi and Limousine Commission and had a clean record.


Pahrump gas station clerk killed, search for suspect continues

Dec. 30, Las Vegas, NV - Nye County officials say a suspect in a Sunday night robbery at a Pahrump gas station was spotted Monday night at 5pm. A female clerk at DC Travel gas station in Pahrump was robbed and murdered Sunday night on the job. The Nye County Sheriff's office has identified 22-year-old Jaime Albarran as the suspect, and they consider him armed and extremely dangerous.


Livery Cab Driver Fatally Shot In Brooklyn

Dec. 30, Brooklyn, NY - The victim is a 61-year-old livery cab driver, shot and killed early Wednesday morning a block away from his home. Coney Island resident Barkim Robinson says he got a familiar wakeup call at about 5 a.m. Right outside Robinson's window, victim Khadim Hussain was being fired at while in his black livery cab, in the middle of West 33rd Street in Coney Island. Police say Hussain was shot once in the stomach by at least three suspects. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Coney Island Hospital.


Pizza-delivery driver dies in crash

Dec. 30, Schriever, LA — A 20-year-old pizza-delivery driver was killed in a collision with a fuel truck late Monday afternoon near St. George and Main Project roads, State Police said. Brianne Gros, of Vacherie, was driving a 2000 Nissan Maxima west on St. George Road about 5:30 p.m. when she failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with a 2001 Mack truck driven by 42-year-old Gerrold Williams, of Houma, according to trooper David Anderson.The northbound truck, owned by Gaubert Oil Co. of Thibodaux, hit the Nissan on the driver’s side. The truck had just delivered its cargo of fuel, and the tanker was empty, police said.


Funeral For Officer Killed in the Line of Duty

Dec. 30, Lansing, MI - A funeral will be held Wednesday for a former East Lansing police officer killed in the line of duty. Mason Samborski had been an officer with the Oak Park police department for 4 years, and worked with the East Lansing police department from 2001 until 2005. Police say he was shot and killed Sunday morning while following up on an investigation after a traffic stop.


Employee kills Eldora general manager; gunman then shot by deputy

Dec. 30, Nederland, CO — A black-clad worker at the Eldora ski area asked other employees about their religious beliefs before shooting a manager to death early Tuesday morning, then died a short time later several miles away in a gun battle with a Boulder County sheriff's deputy. Eldora identified the victim as Brian Mahon and said he was the general manager of the resort west of Nederland. The Boulder County Coroner’s Office has identified the gunman as Derick A. Bonestroo, 24, of Nederland.


Recycling truck worker killed

Dec. Pottstown, PA — A worker for J.P. Mascaro & Sons was run over by a recycling truck he was working with Monday afternoon, according to Lower Providence officials. Police responded to a report of a person being hit by a truck on Catfish Lane, in the Valley Forge Terrace section of the township, about 3:49 p.m. Monday, according to officials. Officers found Michael Wiggins, 20, of Church Street in Philadelphia, lying under the recycling truck near the intersection with Valley Lane, according to officials. Wiggins suffered multiple injuries. The cause of death was directly related to Wiggins’ injuries, officials said.


Suit blames sawmill's safety violations for employee's wrongful death

Dec. 30, Marshall, TX - The family of a man killed while working at a Texas sawmill is suing the company for alleged safety violations. According to the complaint filed Dec. 28 in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas, Jose Luis Flores Guadarrama was employed at Southern Hardwood Co. on Jan. 20, 2007, when he died. Guadarrama was making wooden boards for pallets using a board edger, when the Crosby board edger "shot back" a board into Guadarrama's chest.

Skydiver killed after equipment malfunction

Dec. 29, Mount Vernon, MO — A male skydiver was killed Sunday after a parachute malfunction, authorities said. Deputies responded at about 1:40 p.m. to Freefall Express Skydiving, based at the Mount Vernon airport, where they found the man, who died upon impact. The business experienced two other fatalities in a plane crash April 19. Marnie Fuller, 36, of Walnut Grove, and Jennifer Collins, 32, of Peculiar, two employees of the business, were killed in the crash. The pilot and another passenger were seriously injured in that crash, and three skydivers jumped from the plane and parachuted to safety.


Firefighter, teen killed in avalanche

Dec. 31, Denver, CO - A South Metro firefighter, one of two snowmobilers killed in an avalanche in Grand County Saturday, was trying to help a teen in trouble when he died, according to a friend and co-worker. "He was trying to help someone else who was in trouble, and it cost him his life,” Michael Porter, a friend and co-worker, said. "We are still in shock and trying to help the family and the fire department," Becky O'Guin told 9NEWS.Sunday morning, the Grand County Coroner's Office identified the firefighter as 38-year-old Brian Kopp of Larkspur. They say 19-year-old Mark Goetz of Arvada also died in the avalanche.


I am not sure if this woman was an employee. Since her being an employee is a possibility, I must put the article here.
Woman dies at Phoenix drive-thru after being shot in robbery

Police are looking for three men who held up two adjoining tourism businesses in a Phoenix strip mall near 27th Avenue and Thomas Road Sunday. Authorities said the men entered the Puente Turismo and Travel With Us stores at about 1:47 p.m. and shot a woman inside the building. The woman, who police said may have been an employee, suffered a gunshot wound and ran from the building. She made it as far as the Carl's Jr. drive-thru in the same strip mall parking lot, but she collapsed and died before help arrived.


Woman Killed in Industrial Accident

Dec. 5, Glenvar, VA - Police say a 22-year-old Bedford County woman has died in an industrial accident in Roanoke County. Roanoke County Police Detective Todd Farris says Kasey St. Clair became entangled in a piece of equipment used to mix chemicals at Tecton Products early Friday. She died at the scene. Farris says co-workers who tried to resuscitate St. Clair were exposed to chemicals. They were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
